Pioneer Women of Reserve Antiques Festival
PWR Antiques Festival Seal
Labor Day, September 7, 2009, marks the twenty-eighth annual Western Reserve Academy Antiques Festival in Hudson, Ohio. Founded in 1826, Western Reserve is the ninth oldest boarding school in the United States and features beautiful 19th century architecture.

Held outdoors rain or shine, the festival takes place on Western Reserve Academy's historic campus, which provides the perfect backdrop for the exhibitors' wares. Offered for purchase is a wide variety of fine Americana, including period American furniture, Ohio antiques, early toys, wicker, garden statuary, folk art, Oriental rugs, pewter, and early 18th and 19th century items.

Each year, more than 200 volunteers present one of the area's finest antique events, showcasing over 100 exhibitors from across Ohio and nine neighboring states. This event is sponsored by the Pioneer Women of Reserve, which is comprised of mothers of present and former students, alumnae, and other friends of Western Reserve Academy.

As the major fundraising effort of the Pioneer Women, the Antiques Festival's profits provide significant funds in support of the Academy's students. Past projects include tickets for cultural/literary events, leadership training, funding of a computer networking system and sponsorship of social issue programs.

The Pioneer Women Antiques Festival committee is pleased to announce this year the raffle item is an Ohio Walnut Pie Cupboard, circa 1860. It has two doors, each with three panels of pierced tin in a star design, and two interior shelves. A dovetail shaped gallery top and plank sides with shaped cut out feet complete this piece. The cupboard measures 50" tall x 40 " wide x 17" deep. The pie cupboard will be on display at the Grey Colt, 150 N. Main St., Hudson, OH, two weeks prior to the Festival and also at the Festival on Labor Day, Monday, September 7th.

Raffle tickets are $5.00 each or five for $20.00 and may be purchased at the Pioneer Women booth throughout the day.

Over 5,000 browsers and antique hunters attend the festival and ample free parking is provided. Sandwiches, salads, beverages and desserts will be available at reasonable prices. Serious aficionados may wish to purchase a Preview Ticket for $28.00, which allows early shopping from 8:30 A.M. to 10:00 A.M., all-day admission, preferential parking and breakfast served at Ellsworth Hall on campus. There are no pre-sold tickets for the Preview event.

General admission is $8.00. Children under 18 are admitted free. The Festival is open 10:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M., rain or shine, on Labor Day, Monday, September 7, 2009. The campus is located north of Hudson's downtown on Route 91 (North Main Street). Those traveling by the Ohio Turnpike should take Exit #180 (formerly exit #12) to Hudson.
